What a perfect way to spend a Sunday afternoon in late May !!
Sunday, we were very fortunate to have been invited onto Les & Jan’s fabulous boat, the Belle Vita. Now I am no boat aficionado, but I know what I like, and I like this little gem !
The ‘gang’ that live here and two ‘mum’s on tour’, piled onto the Belle Vita at 1.15pm. By 1.30pm we were sailing through the new extension to the Med-Saidia Marina. This has been a true feat of engineering and time management. True, it has cost the same as a small countries budget for a year, but hey, it looks fabulous!? To me, it just goes to show, if there is the right management in place, things can be accomplished on time and on budget. Shame they didn’t use the same methodology in building the rest of the site really ….. OK - I know that’s another story for another day.
Back to the boat….. Once out of the harbour, we turned right and headed towards Saidia Old Town. Sailing past the Iberostar Hotel and ‘Noname Hotel’ - which is still under construction, and may well end up not being Globilia. Along the coastline, skirting the beautiful and somewhat deserted west end of Saidia Plage.
The closer we came to the Old Town beach, so increased the number of people and umbrellas on the beach. It was packed by the time we dropped anchor, just off the beach, directly opposite the ‘Samy Playa’ Restaurant, (for those of you that know it).
Once we were anchored and the sea was rocking us to sleep, we had a sumptuous lunch on deck. Idyllic. The motion of the ocean rocked us contentedly. The wine and been was very soothing too. All in all - fabulous.
A huge ‘THANK YOU’ to Jan & Les for the amazing hospitality and chance to see Saidia from a different angle.
I look forward to meeting you to swap stories.
